Notas 20 ABR 2021

The chapters of the book are based on the results of a study conducted in São Paulo by Cetic.br|NIC.br

The qualitative study conducted with children and adolescents in São Paulo's capital is presented in the book “Gender Dynamics in the Use of Digital Technologies – A Study with Children and Adolescents in the City of São Paulo.” Available for free download, the publication by the Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning (Cebrap) is supported by the Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br) of the Brazilian Network Information Center (NIC.br).

The texts in the publication are based on the results of a survey conducted by Cetic.br|NIC.br on the differences and inequalities in access to and use of information and communication technologies (ICT) by young people, showing how the online experiences of girls and boys can be influenced by gender issues, affecting the exploitation of opportunities, perceptions of privacy, mode of presentation, and forms of expression, among other points.

“We hope that the results of this study can be used to develop public policies aimed at reducing the existing digital gaps from a gender perspective, ensuring the full exploitation of the potential of ICT by girls and boys,” highlights Alexandre Barbosa, manager of Cetic.br|NIC.br.

The book also features thematic articles written by researchers from Cebrap, on data collected in São Paulo, and from researchers of the UNESCO Regional Chair Women, Science and Technology in Latin America at FLACSO-Argentina, on data from Buenos Aires. The publication also includes contributions from Gloria Bonder, coordinator of the UNESCO Regional Chair Women, Science and Technology in Latin America at FLACSO-Argentina, and Sonia Jorge, executive director of the Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI).
