What is the objective of the research?
The objective of the TIC Kids Online Brazil research is to understand how children and adolescents aged 9 to 17 years use the Internet and how they deal with the opportunities and risks arising from this use.
Why is this research important?
The research data will guide experts, researchers, the government, and society to better understand the habits of Brazilian children and adolescents on the Internet and, thus, contribute to the development of public policies and projects aimed at promoting the rights and well-being of children and adolescents.
The research receives support from important institutions like UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund).
The study is based on the international methodology of the EU Kids Online research, developed by the British university London School of Economics. The international EU Kids Online survey has already been conducted in more than 25 countries in Europe and, for the third year, this survey will be carried out in Brazil.
How is the research conducted?
The research is conducted nationwide in randomly selected households based on the 2022 Census by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics). In each household, two face-to-face interviews are conducted: one with a child or adolescent aged 9 to 17 and another with their mother, father, or another guardian. It is important to emphasize that data will only be collected with the authorization/consent of the guardian and the child or adolescent themselves.
Data collection is carried out using two types of questionnaires:
- Face to face: the interviewer will ask the interviewee some questions and record their answers on a specially programmed tablet.
- Self-completion: to be completed by the child or adolescent themselves to preserve their privacy. Once completed, the responses will be archived automatically to maintain the confidentiality of the information.
These questionnaires are administered by interviewers properly identified with a badge from Ipec - Intelligence in Research and Consulting, which is the research institute responsible for data collection.
Additionally, the household may be selected to answer the questionnaire of the TIC Domicílios survey, aimed at understanding internet usage habits among the Brazilian population aged 10 and older. To ensure the quality of results, it is essential that the selected person cooperates with the research, as responses from other residents will not be considered.
About IpecIpec was recently acquired by Ipsos, one of the world leaders in market research. For conducting the interviews for TIC Domicílios and TIC Kids Online Brazil 2025, the field teams present themselves and are identified as Ipec interviewers.
What happens to the information provided?
The responses provided are consolidated with the answers of thousands of children and adolescents who also respond to the same questions. The respondent is not identified, meaning the results collected from all respondents are calculated together to represent a total value for the entire country and no individual personal data is disclosed.
Ipec - Intelligence in Research and Consulting, the company responsible for data collection, follows the processes of the ISO 20252:2019 standard, which mandates the confidentiality of all survey respondents' data.
